Telemetry & Privacy
Our Approach to Usage Analytics
To continuously improve Bwat, we collect anonymous usage metrics that help us understand how developers interact with our open-source AI coding assistant. This data is essential for enhancing Bwat's functionality and user experience.
We utilize PostHog (opens in a new tab), an open-source analytics platform, for gathering and analyzing this data. Our implementation is completely transparent - you can examine the source code to see precisely what information we track.
Privacy Commitment
Your privacy is paramount. All collected data is:
- Anonymized before transmission
- Excludes any personally identifiable information (PII)
- Never includes your code, prompts, or conversation content
Data We Collect
The anonymous usage metrics include:
-
Workflow Patterns
Task initiation/completion events and conversation structure (excluding content) -
Feature Utilization
Mode switching between plan/act and tool selection patterns -
Resource Metrics
Conversation length indicators for cost estimation (without token content) -

For full transparency, review our telemetry implementation (opens in a new tab) to see the specific events we monitor.
Opting Out
Participation in Bwat's telemetry program is completely voluntary:
- During installation or updates, you'll be notified about our anonymous data collection
- You can modify your preference at any time through settings
- Bwat automatically respects VS Code's global telemetry settings
Note: If you've disabled telemetry at the VS Code application level, Bwat's data collection will be disabled accordingly.
